Obituary

Republic Twp.,- A. George French, age 71 of 4282 Basswood Lane Republic passed away Monday January 5, 2015 at his home while in the loving comfort of his family and under the care of UP Home Health & Hospice.

George was born October 17, 1943 in Newberry, MI to Harlan & Grace (Harriger) French. He graduated from Newberry High School, class of 1962. George served his country in the US Army, stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War and continued to serve in the Michigan National Guard where he retired from in October 2003. George had also worked various jobs, mostly for Republic Township, Department of Public Works where he retired from in October 2009.

George always enjoyed building things or working on remodeling projects. He and his wife Corinne enjoyed going for rides on their side by side the "Buggy". George was a competitive horseshoe player, playing for Bill's Bar horseshoe team. He was a past member of the Republic Lions Club and a member of the Republic Township Volunteer Fire Department.

George is survived by his wife, Corinne (Skogman) French, whom he married on March 12, 1966, 4 children: Richard (Marci) French of Champion, Teresa (Curtis) Laakso of Republic, George (Teena) French of Ishpeming and Kimberly (Michael) Martin of Republic, 2 brothers: William French of Newberry and Philip (Mary) French of Goodrich, MI, 4 grandchildren: Anna & Aaron Laakso, Grace & Ellie Martin, along with numerous nieces and nephews. George was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister Nora.

A Memorial service celebrating George's life will be held at 1:00pm on Monday January 12th at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Republic with Rev. Kevin Kaiser officiating. George's family will greet relatives and friends at Bethany Lutheran Church on Monday from 11:00am until the time of service at 1:00pm.

Military honors will be accorded by the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 380.
