Ishpeming – Edith Sargent Roberts, age 90, formerly of 703 Duncan Ave., Ishpeming, MI passed away peacefully with her family by her side at 2:15am on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at the Eastwood Nursing Center where she had resided since October of 2009.

Edith was born on July 1, 1921 in Negaunee, MI, the daughter of Thomas and Edith (Staples) Sargent. She was a graduate of the Negaunee High School, Northwestern University – The Evanston School of Nursing, Chicago, IL and Northern Michigan University. Edith worked as a registered nurse at Bell Memorial Hospital and taught nursing at St. Luke’s Hospital in Marquette and at Northern Michigan University. Before her retirement, she worked as a Utilization Review Coordinator at Marquette General Hospital.

Edith was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, a Golden Link Member, a member of the mission’s commission and was a member of the dedicated group of women who make pasties monthly. She was a talented craftsperson who enjoyed knitting, crocheting and tatting. Her last project was a 5’ x 4’ crocheted picture of “The Last Supper.” She also enjoyed watching many sporting activities, most especially her favorite team, the Detroit Tigers.

Edith is survived by two daughters: Carolyn Peterson of Marquette and Katherine (Terry) Kipling of Spring Lake, MI, four grandchildren: Jay (Patty) Peterson, Heather (Mark) Pease, Eric (Sara) Kipling and Katina (Toby) Campbell, eleven great grandchildren: Scotti Peterson, Liam Peterson and Sandra French, Katherine Pease and Benjamin Pease, Anne Kipling, Maddux Kipling and Charles Kipling, Kolt Campbell and Cynda Campbell, two sisters-in-law: Mildred Roberts of Marquette and Nel Sargent of VA, her dear friend Janet Genord of Ishpeming along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband MacNeil Roberts, a son Keith Roberts, two sisters: Carrie Nicholas and Elizabeth Nylander, and three brothers: John Nicholas, William Sargent and Clarence Sargent.

A late spring memorial service will be held for immediate family only.

The family would like to thank the wonderfully caring staff at the Eastwood Nursing Center, Drs. Carlson, Grossman and Gagnon and Pastor Scott Lindenberg and the staff at Wesley United Methodist Church for their visits and prayers.
