Tilden Township -Peter Michalski, 74, of 520 County Road PPL, Ishpeming, died at home on Saturday, August 17, 2013.

Peter was born September 8, 1938 at the home place in Split Rock Township, MN. Pete was one of seven children of Zigmund and Christine (Rutkowski) Michalski. Raised on the family farm, he attended the Wilson, Kettle River, and Moose Lake, MN Schools. In his younger years, Pete worked as a logger and at the Wood Conversion plant in Cloquet, MN. Peter retired in 2000 after 37 years with the LS&I Railroad.

Peter and his wife Linda were married at the Polish National Catholic Church in Duluth, MN on July 5, 1975 and have resided at the home that they built in Tilden Township with the help of his children and many friends.

Pete enjoyed feeding the birds, deer, and partridge out of his back door. He also enjoyed traveling and camping with his motor home, especially the "guys only" Labor Day weekend camping trips and with the Pioneer Good Sams Chapter 88. He also worked out at the Negaunee YMCA with the 5 A.M.crew. Pete enjoyed being on the work crews for many house and garage raisings, especially as the workers were always well fed. It was a favorite past time for Pete to phone the boys every day to check out the weather in Marquette.

Pete was a member of Faith Lutheran Church. For many years he was involved with Boy Scout Troop 321 as an Assistant Scout Master. His favorite times with the scouts included a 50 mile hike from Munising to Grand Marais, and volunteering as an adult leader at Boy Scout summer camps.

Peter is survived by his wife, Linda, one daughter, Sheila (Steve) Wilson, Marquette; three sons, Scott Michalski and Jeff Michalski, both of Marquette, and Anthony (Sarah) Michalski of Green Bay, WI., special friends Marsha and Bob Rivord, one brother: Alex (Christine) Michalski of Sturgeon Lake, MN, four brothers-in-law: Kenneth (Jean) Swartout, Council Bluffs, IA, Edward Swartout, Proctor, MN, Francis (Georgia) Swartout, Two Harbors, MN, William (Ursula) Swartout, Onalaska, WI, six sisters-in-law: Mary Jean (Tim) Topping, Superior, WI, Nancy Swartout. Rochester Hills, MI, Susan (Gilbert) Keene, Marathon City, WI, Kathleen Doiron, St. John, New Brunswick, Canada, Jolinda Swartout, Parkton, NC; Beverly Michalski of Sturgeon Lake, MN along with nieces, nephews and numerous other relatives.

Peter was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Leonard Michalski and Martin Michalski, sisters: Genevieve Macioshek, Mary Siltonen, and Gertrude Carl.

A memorial service will be held at Faith Lutheran Church County Road 581 at 5:00pm on Tuesday, August 20, 2013 with Rev. Dave Johnson officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends at Faith Lutheran Church on Tuesday from 3:00pm until the time of service. A dinner will follow the service in the church fellowship hall.
