Ishpeming – David S. “Davey” Meyer Jr, age 29, of 409 N. Second St., Ishpeming died on Friday June 8, 2012 at his home. David was the victim of a fatal gunshot wound.

David was born October 16, 1982 in Ishpeming the son of Trudy Gustafson and David S. Meyer Sr. David had worked as a Wildland Fire Firefighter as a contract worker for the U.S. Forest Service in California. This past fall Davey went to Alaska to work on the Longline fishing boats for Black Cod. Locally he did scrap metal work, along with any other work were he was needed. He enjoyed doing small engine repair work.

Davey’s sons were the love of his life and he cherished the time he spent with them. Davey loved time spent at camp, camping, fishing, riding dirt bikes, four wheelers and snowmobiles.

Survivors include his parents Trudy (Pete Frustaglio) Gustafson of Ishpeming and David S. Meyer Sr. of Woodland, CA, his girlfriend Kristen Leach of Michigamme, 2 sons – Tyler James Leach and Tanner Michael Leach, his grandparents – Jim & Dorothy Meyer of Ishpeming and Elmer & Mary Gustafson of Humboldt, 3 uncles Richard (Chrissy) Gustafson of Brillion, WI, Robert (Tracy) Gustafson of Neenah, WI and Gary (Robin) Gustafson of Menominee, an aunt Lori Butler of Ishpeming, along with numerous cousins including special cousin Amanda Butler. He was preceded in death by an Uncle Richard Butler.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 1:00pm on Friday June 29, 2012 at the Ishpeming Cemetery with the Rev. Lauri O. Maki to officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Peninsula Bank, 100 S. Main St., Ishpeming, MI 49849, where an account has been set up for his sons Tyler and Tanner Leach.
