Ishpeming – Louise “Arlene” Bjorne, age 81, longtime West Ishpeming resident, passed away Thursday Morning, May 3, 2012 at the Marquette Co. Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming where she had resided since January 10th. Louise was under the loving care of her family and the Upper Peninsula Home Health and Hospice.
Louise was born November 12, 1930 in Hurley, Wisconsin the daughter of the late Walter and Elina (Maki) Hendrickson. She was a graduate of the Hurley High School, Class of 1948. She married Norman Bjorne a few years later and they subsequently made Ishpeming their home. While in Ishpeming, “Arlene” had worked for Bell Telephone as an operator, and then for many years as a sales clerk at the J.J. Newberry store and Merrick’s store in downtown Ishpeming retiring in 1992.
Louise was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church in Ishpeming. Arlene enjoyed spending time at camp, especially cooking and sauna time. She loved to crochet, or pass time by doing crossword and jig-saw puzzles. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren always had a special place in her heart and they very much enjoyed grandma’s company. Arlene and Norman wintered in Florida and Arizona for some of their retirement years.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years Norman Bjorne of Ishpeming, a daughter Julie (Paul Maki) Bjorne of Ishpeming, 2 sons – Robert (Dolores Aviles) Bjorne of Forked River, NJ and Jim (Holly) Bjorne of Ishpeming, 2 brothers – Kenneth Hendrickson of Delafield, WI and Robert (Nancy) Hendrickson of Muskego, WI, 3 grandchildren - Jennie (Brandin) Johnson, Hillary Bjorne and Seth Bjorne, 2 great grandchildren - Jarin and Brady Johnson, along with many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 3 sisters.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 11:00am – 1:00pm on Monday May 7, 2012 at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Ishpeming. A memorial service will follow at 1:00pm on Monday at the Bethel Lutheran Church with the Rev. Lauri O. Maki to officiate. Inurnment will take place at Northland Chapel Gardens.
